So your significant other loves watching Its a Wonderful Life over and over again or loves to sing along to the musical version of a Christmas Carol with Albert Phinney. Well we lined up some holiday movies that will make you forget those timeless classics and maybe start your own holiday movie watching tradition.

  1. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians – Not only does Pia Zadora appear in this movie as a martian child but is featured as one of the funniest Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes which gave this film cult status. It is also considered one of the top 100 worst movies of all time and that’s saying something considering all the horrible new movies we have watched this year.

  1. Santa Claus Versus Satan- A Mexican children’s film this is by far the strangest film involving Santa Claus ever. In this version Santa does not live in the North Pole but on a castle like space ship in a cloud in space. He is helped by Merlin and has a massive security surveillance system that watches all the worlds children. Only Mexican cinema can come up with something this out there.

  1. Silent Night, Deadly Night- When this 80’s classic first was released it got so much bad press even the PTA tried to stop its release because they felt it would damage kids view of Santa. The movie is about a boy who is abused in a Catholic orphanage and then he dresses like Santa and goes on a killing spree. Of course Hollywood had to make a remake of this but it never could touch the original.

  1. Black Christmas-Based on real life murders in Canada this movie made in Canada follow a deranged killer picking off girls in a sorority one by one on Christmas eve. Fun fact about this movie is that it was directed by Bob Clark, yes the same Bob Clark that directed that iconic Christmas movie A Christmas Story.

  1. Christmas on Mars- This 2008 movie is a B-movie made by the band The Flaming Lips.  The story is about Major Syrtis who wants to celebrate the first baby being born on Mars which is scheduled to be born a minute after midnight on Christmas day. This movie is being shown at very limited number of theaters but you can buy the DVD from the bands website and while worth watching especially if  your a big Flaming Lips fan.
